This Burgundian-styled Chardonnay honors the Careaga Sandstone Formation, a deposit of ancient soils in the Santa Maria River Valley that holds our underground water and is the essential source for life and agriculture. With water, well drained soils, cool, gentle breezes, and a great grape grower, Chardonnay thrives here. The grapes came from Rancho Real Vineyards in the Santa Maria Valley AVA.
Barrel fermented and barrel aged in somewhat neutral oak, the wine is similar to a Grand Cru Chablis with its crisp acidity, minerality and balance. Though lean, it has a gentle roundness that complements the zesty lemon and white flower notes backed by a touch of honey. It will continue to develop and integrate. Match with buttery scallops, pasta with a truffled white sauce or a perfectly roasted chicken.
